Student Code of Conduct


English - The Student Code of Conduct states the key mutual obligations and expectations between Gem-A and its students (you), providing a structure that creates a supportive learning environment. All students must agree to the Student Code of Conduct before they are able to commence on the site. 

French - Le Code de conduite des étudiants énonce les principales obligations et attentes mutuelles entre Gem-A et ses étudiants (vous), fournissant une structure qui crée un environnement d'apprentissage favorable. Tous les étudiants doivent accepter le Code de conduite des étudiants avant de pouvoir commencer sur le site.

Chinese Simplified - 《学生行为守则》说明了 Gem-A 与其学生(您)之间的关键相互义务和期望,提供了一个创造支持性学习环境的框架。所有学生必须同意《学生行为守则》,才能开始在该场地的学习。

Chinese Traditional - 《學生行為準則》規定了 Gem-A 與其學生(你)之間的主要相互義務和期望,提供了一個結構以創造支持性的學習環境。所有學生在開始使用網站之前,必須同意《學生行為準則》。

Japanese - 学生行動規範は、ジェムエーとその学生(あなた)との間の主要な相互義務と期待を示しており、支援的な学習環境を作るための構造を提供します。すべての学生は、サイトで学習を開始する前に、学生行動規範に同意する必要があります。

1. Purpose

The Gem-A Student Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected of all students to support a respectful, inclusive, and effective learning environment. This policy covers all students whether studying at Gem-A London, Online Distance Learning (ODL) or at one of Gem-A’s Accredited Teaching Centres (ATC) or Gem-A Approved Practical Providers (GAPP).

2. General Responsibilities

All students are expected to:

  • Take responsibility for their learning, behaviour and conduct.
  • Treat staff, fellow students and visitors with courtesy and respect.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative learning environment.
  • Comply with student policies and procedures set by Gem-A, or the teaching centre.
  • Comply with any local rules, regulations and legislation.

3. Communication and Behaviour

Students must:

  • Always communicate respectfully, including via online posts and forums.
  • Avoid disruptive behaviour or language that interferes with teaching and learning or the operational aspects of Gem-A or the teaching centre.
  • Not participate in any form of harassment, discrimination, bullying, or intimidation towards anyone, whether this is a fellow student, staff member or visitor, and to comply with the Gem-A Bullying and Harassment policy.

Unacceptable behaviour whether verbal, written, physical or online will not be tolerated and could lead to disciplinary action.     

4. Attendance and Engagement

  • Gem-A London teaching centre students are expected to attend all scheduled classes and arrive on time. Any absence should be agreed with Gem-A; the minimum attendance requirement is 80%.
  • ODL students are required to engage consistently with their online coursework and progress through the course in accordance with the published course outline. Gem-A requires at least 80% of the online course to be completed.
  • ATC and GAPP students are required to attend and participate in line with their teaching centre requirements.

5. Academic Integrity

Students are expected to act honestly regarding Gem-A coursework, academic assessments and examinations, including:

  • Completing and submitting their own work.
  • Avoiding plagiarism or cheating in coursework, assessments or exams.
  • Acknowledging sources of information or referencing the use of AI tools appropriately where required.

·         Academic malpractice may result in disciplinary action, which could lead to suspension or enforced withdrawal from a course or programme of study.  If this happens, Gem-A will not reimburse any fees paid by students.   

6. Use of facilities and resources

Students must:

  • Use Gem-A, ATC or GAPP teaching facilities, equipment and learning resources responsibly and carefully and follow any staff/tutor instruction.
  • Avoid damaging, misusing, or removing Gem-A, ATC, GAPP or another individual’s property without permission.
  • Not breach the copyright of Gem-A or any third party by copying from the Gem-A online learning platform, course materials or teaching materials without authorisation.
  • Respect all shared spaces and the property of others.

7. Information Technology and Online Conduct

Students must:

  •       Register to use the Gem-A online learning platform and agree to the Gem-A Online Campus Website Site Policy and any other relevant student policies. 
  •           Give their consent to Gem-A’s processing of their personal data via the Gem-A online learning platform and to acknowledge Gem-A’s Data Protection statement.
  • Not share any inappropriate content. All online communication related to Gem-A, staff or students must remain respectful and professional.
  • Gain prior consent from Gem-A for the audio recording of onsite classes or other sessions and only where reasonable adjustments are being considered. Video recording of onsite classes is not permitted.

8. Health and Safety

Students are required to:

  • Comply with Gem-A, ATC or GAPP health and safety procedures.
  • Follow all emergency routine instructions and procedures.
  • Not bring dangerous or illegal items onto Gem-A or teaching centre premises.
  • Avoid any behaviour or actions that place themselves or others at risk.

9. Alcohol and Substance Use

  • The use of alcohol or illegal substances during teaching and learning activities is not allowed.
  • Students must not attend classes while under the influence of substances that may impair judgement or behaviour.

10. Breaches of Code and Resolution by Gem-A

Where concerns arise regarding student conduct:

  • Gem-A will address issues fairly, respectfully and proportionately.
  • Informal discussion and resolution will be used where appropriate.
  • More serious or repeated breaches of this code may result in disciplinary action which could lead to suspension or enforced withdrawal from a course or programme of study. If this happens, we will not reimburse any fees paid by students.   

Students will be given the opportunity to respond to any concerns raised.

11. Acknowledgment

By enrolling onto this course, you agree to abide by the Gem-A Student Code of Conduct and to contribute to a respectful and professional learning environment.
